Action
Plan
POPULATION 2005 will organize meetings or roundtables, when
appropriate, to focus public attention on future implementation
of the ICPD Program of Action.
The alliance will undertake or support information and media
campaigns to promote the ICPD agenda with an aim toward reaching
the largest possible audience and gaining commitment to the
Program of Action from all segments of society.
The alliance will organize and issue annual overviews of
the ICPD implementation worldwide. These reports will monitor
the progress toward achieving the goals of the ICPD Program
of Action by national governments, civil society organizations,
the United Nations system and other members of the international
community. Additionally, the reports will examine the obstacles
that prevent or delay the achievement of the ICPD goals.
The monitoring reports will encourage replication of the
so-called "Best Practices" - the most successful
projects and efforts undertaken to carry out the ICPD Program
of Action - as well as measures to solve or remove problems
and constraints.
The Population Institute and Population 2005 are organizing The Global
Population Forum 2004, as an international event in celebration of the 10th
anniversary of the United Nations International Conference on Population and
Development (ICPD). The forum will seek to focus worldwide attention on
successes and failures in implementing the ICPD Program of Action. In
addition, the event will also focus on formulating concrete recommendations
on the further implementation of the Program of Action. The forum will
concentrate on four major topics: 1) Family Planning and Reproductive
Health, 2) HIV/AIDS and other Parasitic and Infectious Diseases, 3)
Migration and 4) Aging. The Global Population Forum 2004 will be held from
May 13th – 15th, 2004.
